- Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)
a) A ball is out of bounds when it is beyond any wall, fence or line
of white stakes defining a boundary.
b) 16th fairway when playing the 11th hole.
c) 11th fairway when playing the 12th hole.
d) 9th fairway is out of bounds when playing the 6th hole. - Penalty Areas (Rule 17)
Water hazards are now known as Penalty Areas. A penalty area is: any body of water on the course (whether or not marked by the Complex), including a lake, pond, stream, ditch, surface drainage ditch or other open watercourse (even if not containing water), and any other part of the course the Complex defines as a penalty area. Unmarked channels running in the general direction of play are red penalty areas.
If your ball is in the penalty area to the rear of the 12th green, including when it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found came to rest in the penalty area, the player has these relief options, each for one penalty stroke: a) take relief under Rule 17.1 or b) as an extra drop option, drop the ball or another ball in the dropping zone to the left rear of the green. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3. - Young Trees
Staked trees are immovable obstructions. If the staked tree interferes with the swing, the ball must be lifted and dropped clear within one club-length of the nearest point of relief with no penalty. No free relief available for trees with wrapping only. - Pop-up Sprinklers and Water System Covers
These are immovable obstructions. Relief may be obtained under Rule 16.1. In addition, if such an obstruction is on or within two clubs length of the putting green of the hole being played, intervenes between the ball and the hole, the player may obtain relief without penalty if the ball lies off the putting green (but not in a penalty area) and is within two club-lengths of the intervening obstruction, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped. - Winter Rules/Preferred Lies
When in force, when a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by lifting, cleaning and placing the original ball within six inches of the original spot, but not nearer the hole. If the ball moves after being placed, it must be played as it lies.
